5th BATTALION ENTERTAINMENT in conjunction with Chicano Nation is finalizing plans for its 1st Annual Youth Dialogue Summit. The Summit will be held Saturday, November 15, 2003 at Chicano Nation 7646 Greenleaf Ave. in the city of Whittier from 1:00 to 6:00pm. Our theme for this event is "The Voice of the Youth", the dialogue will center around workshop sessions using Hip Hop, Spoken Word and poetry as tools for healing and understanding of one’s self. Local community activists, educators and entertainers have graciously donated their time to lead the different workshops offered at the summit. Some of the topics we will be covering include: Self respect and Teen Sexuality, Higher Education and it’s Importance in our Communities, Gang/Drug Intervention and Healthy Alternatives, as well as other issues the participants themselves will bring to the table. We hope to use Hip Hop music as a catalyst for creating change within our communities and know that our youth are on the front lines of this battle. At the end of the workshop, works (Raps and Poetry) done by the youth will be recorded and put into a C.D. and packaged professionally for sale.

The primary purpose of the summit is to reach out to our "at risk" youth and help them see healthy alternatives to some of the many stumbling blocks they face on a daily basis. We hope to reach out to local schools, youth groups, after-school programs and student organizations to help in publicizing this event. Your help is invaluable in reaching local youth to ensure the summit is a success.
